Michael Sposato

Michael Sposato is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). He holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Trent University. In addition, he is a Certified Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist (C.HYP) with a trauma specialization. Michael brings a wealth of diverse experience from child welfare, mental health, and trauma work, having supported children, adolescents, adults, and professionals in high-stress environments, such as correctional officers and paramedics.
Michael is well-versed in working with individuals, families, and groups experiencing challenges such as divorce, self-esteem issues, anger, grief and loss, trauma, and self-harm. He has experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In his therapeutic practice, Michael has helped clients understand their symptoms, process trauma, and develop self-regulation and coping strategies. His experience creating therapeutic groups, such as a ten-week Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) support group for adults, demonstrates his commitment to meeting diverse populations' needs.

Michael's therapeutic approach is grounded in strength-based, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused perspectives, tailoring interventions to meet each client's unique needs and goals. He is skilled in various evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Ego-State Therapy. His expertise also extends to supporting clients with complex conditions such as bipolar disorder (types I and II), disordered eating, and psychosis.
