My Approach

Psychotherapy helps us make sense of our thoughts, feelings and our relationships with the world and others around us. It helps us to understand how our past experiences may influence our present day behaviours. When we understand ourselves we often have a better chance of accepting ourselves. With greater awareness we can develop confidence, strength, self-agency and the ability to make healthier choices. Psychotherapy helps us to become comfortable with the uncomfortable, understanding who we really are and what we really want in this life.

"you have to do it by yourself, but you don't have to do it alone"

                                                             - proverb

I offer very person-centred, psychodynamic counselling. As a clinician I am integrated (meaning I love to weave various modalities such as CBT/DBT/Motivational Interviewing and body-work therapy into my approach). I specialize in trauma and somatic processing and I love it.

My goal is to help clients explore past experiences and how they “show up” or “present” in one’s life today. I work with individuals who encompass a wide range of ages, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and professions.  To some, the term psychotherapy might be new and intimidating and one might be unsure of what to expect. Below are some of the things we might discuss in a session.

  • Your core beliefs and the way you feel about yourself and others

  • Your childhood and lived experiences

  • The connection between past and present day behaviours

  • Stressors you might currently be facing

  • Your goals

  • Obstacles that prevent you from getting to where you want to be

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email.

Warmly,

Sheila
