Psychoeducational Assessments

~Understanding how you learn can make all the difference~
 

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to better understand an individual’s unique learning and cognitive profile — including their strengths, challenges, and the factors that may be getting in the way of success at school, work, or in everyday life.

Through standardized testing and clinical assessment, we can explore areas such as attention and concentration, memory, processing speed, executive functioning, reasoning and problem-solving, as well as reading, writing and mathematics skills. Depending on the reason for referral, emotional, behavioural, and other areas of functioning may also be considered.

Psychoeducational assessments can help identify or clarify concerns such as ADHD, learning disabilities (including dyslexia), academic difficulties, and other cognitive or neurodevelopmental factors. Just as importantly, an assessment can identify areas of strength and provide a clearer picture of how an individual learns best.

 

Why Consider an Assessment?

An assessment may be helpful when a child, teen, university/college student, or adult is:
 

• Struggling academically despite putting in significant effort

• Having difficulty with reading, writing, mathematics, memory, attention, or organization

• Suspected of having ADHD or a learning disability

• Performing inconsistently or not reaching their apparent potential

• Preparing for college or university and requiring documentation for academic accommodations

• Looking for a better understanding of their cognitive and learning strengths and needs

 

Following the assessment, clients receive a comprehensive psychological report outlining the findings, any applicable diagnoses, and individualized recommendations. Recommendations may include strategies, supports, and accommodations that can be used at school, post-secondary education, work, or in everyday life.
